Hasselblad X2D 100C: Over 1,000 photos later

3 weeks ago 16

It’s only been a few days since the Hasselblad X2D 100C came out. Everyone who can get their hands on the new 100 MP medium format camera are surely busy taking their first snaps. But, there were also some lucky ones who got to test it out way before the launch date. Among them was Becca Farsace, who spent two sweet weeks with the latest Hasselblad. So, let’s strike while the iron is hot and find out what she thought over 1,000 photos later!

On the latest “Full-Frame” episode on The Verge, Farsace summed up her experience as shooting with an “utterly Hasselblad” camera. “An incredibly well-built camera that takes stunning photos pretty damn slowly,” she added. Then, she breaks down all the features and details that make the Hasselblad X2D 100C a top notch camera. Or, as she put it nicely, a “luxury cruiser” that takes superb images that you can almost touch. There are some downsides, however; one she noted as quite a big feature to miss in 2022.

Farsace also touched on the two of the three new Hasselblad XCD lenses: The XCD 38V and the XCD 55V. Both lenses come with an f/2.5 to f/32 aperture, and cost $3,699. While the Hasselblad X2D 100C is compatible with any XCD lens, the new lenses are better designed with faster autofocus systems. The third lens, the XCD 90V, is a bit heavier than the two and costs more at $4,299.

Of course, Farsace showcased some of her best, crisp photos out of the over 1,000 photos she took over the two weeks spent with this camera. There’s also a bit of pixel peeping and tips for best results thrown in, such as underexposing and fixing it in post later. Shooting brightly-lit scenes with plenty of bold colors is another.

So, have you experienced the new Hasselblad as well? Do you agree with Farsace’s findings? Do share your thoughts with us in the comments below, or in our group discussions if you’re already part of the Photofocus Community!
